Sized.

Know what’s taking up space. Without leaving your terminal.

Some folders need a closer look. Sized puts their sizes in a readable table, with filters when you want less noise and exports when you want to do more. Small terminal tool, useful answers.

A little less mystery. A lot less digging.

Start with a folder. The largest entries rise to the top, so you can see where a closer look will help.

sized demo --precision 1

For a small demo folder, Sized reports 30.0 MiB in total:

Disk usage Folder
  18.0 MiB Backups
   9.0 MiB Projects
   3.0 MiB Downloads

Size and name columns from a real review-build scan of three invented folders on a Mac, presented here as a compact table. No personal files are shown. The terminal also shows entry types and allocated block counts.

Fits the way you work

Find the big things

Filter by minimum size, choose how many rows to show, and sort by size, name or type. Display more folder levels when you need detail.

sized . -m 100MB -n 10

Keep useful output

Switch between filesystem allocation and apparent file length. Include everything, or opt into ignore rules for a development tree. Export CSV or JSON for your own tools.

sized . --format json

Stay in your terminal

Man pages and Bash, Zsh and Fish completions are included. Sized reports what it finds; it has no file-deletion command.

Try Sized from source

With Rust and Git installed, build the current review branch:

git clone --branch sizequeen-scan-hardening https://gitea.speelman.ca/gamertan/sized.git
cd sized
cargo install --locked --path .
sized --help

Cargo installs into ~/.cargo/bin; include it in your PATH. These instructions select the newer scanner work under review, including hard-link accounting, partial-scan reporting and filesystem boundaries. They do not install a new stable release.

The published v1.0.0 release predates those changes. Its legacy executable is for Apple silicon macOS, with an ad hoc signature; it is not SizeQueen’s notarized Mac app. There are no published Linux binaries, architecture-labelled binary archives or verified Homebrew instructions yet. For the published source instead, check out v1.0.0 before installing.

Read the manual for flags and examples. Filesystem allocation can differ from space recovered after deletion, especially with shared extents and snapshots.

From the terminal to SizeQueen

Sized started with a practical question: what is taking up all this room? SizeQueen gives that question a visual answer, with nested rectangles and a native Mac interface.

SizeQueen uses sized-core, the Rust filesystem scanner extracted from Sized. Its treemap and desktop controls are SizeQueen’s own; it does not run the CLI. Sized currently keeps its scanner copy while adoption of the separate core is reviewed.

The core’s forge remains private during development; SizeQueen’s matching source download includes the exact version it uses. Sized’s CLI source is public.

All features stay free. If either tool makes your day easier, support the work at Gamertan. Support is optional and never unlocks features.
